2+2 Transfer Scholarship

The 2024-2025 2+2 Transfer Scholarship application will open Early May 2024.​​​​​


Purpose

The 2+2 Transfer Scholarship is designed to assist and encourage transfer students from Maryland community colleges to attend a 4-year institution within the state and complete their bachelor's degrees in a timely manner. Students must be enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary institution.

 

Recipients are eligible for $1,000 annually towards tuition and mandatory fees. Recipients enrolling in a science, teaching, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or nursing program are eligible for $2,000 annually.

 

Who May Apply?

Individuals applying for the 2+2 Transfer Scholarship for the first time for the 2024-2025 academic year must:

  • Be a resident of Maryland;
  • Be attending a Maryland community college with plans to finish an associate's degree by December 2024 OR have completed an associate's degree from a Maryland community in the 2023-2024 academic year;
    • Applicants who complete their associate's degree in the 2023-2024 academic year must be transferring to a 4-year institution for Fall 2024;
    • Applicants who will complete their associate's degree in Fall 2024 must be transferring to a 4-year institution in Spring 2025;
  • ​Have maintained a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale while at a Maryland community college;
  • Be transferring to a Maryland public or private nonprofit 4-year higher education institution as a full-time, degree seeking undergraduate student in the 2024-2025 academic year;
  • Have demonstrated financial need;
    • Student must not have a Student Aid Index (SAI) over $10,000;

How Do I Apply?

  • ​Submit the 2024-2025 FAFSA by December 31, 2024 or earlier;
  •     Submit a 2+2 Transfer Scholarship application through the MHEC One-App on MDCAPS by December 31, 2024;
  • Submit all required documentation (see Documentation section below):
    • A transcript from a Maryland community college they are enrolled in showing their current GPA by January 31, 2025 or earlier;
    • Income verification documentation, if requested, by January 31, 2025 or earlier;
    • Selective Service System registration, if applicable;
  • Upon completing the associate's degree, a transcript from a Maryland community college showing degree conferment – must be submitted by March 15, 2025 or earlier.

Important Information

    • Applications and documentation are reviewed on a rolling basis – the earlier an applicant is able to provide their application, FAFSA, and requested documentation, the earlier they can be awarded and funds can be disbursed.
      • Disbursement of the scholarship funds cannot occur until documentation of conferred associate's degree is received.
        • Only INITIAL applicants need to complete an application for the 2+2 Transfer Scholarship – renewal recipients do not.
          • The 2024-2025 2+2 Transfer Scholarship application is to receive funding DURING the 2024-2025 academic year.
            • Initial applicants who graduated with their associate's degrees in Fall 2023 CANNOT be enrolled in a 4-year institution prior to Fall 2024 or they will not be considered eligible for the 2024-2025 2+2 Transfer Scholarship.

               

            All 2+2 Transfer Scholarships are contingent on the availability of funds.

             


            Documentation

            All 2+2 Transfer Scholarship applicants are required to submit will be asked to submit a transcript from a Maryland community college they are enrolled in showing their current GPA.

            Applicants, after submission of the FAFSA, may be asked to submit additional documentation. Any documentation that is requested is required for continued consideration for the 2+2 Transfer Scholarship.

            Awarded individuals are required to submit a final transcript from their community college showing proof that their associate's degree has been conferred. Awards are not disbursed until proof of associate's degree is received.

            Applicants will receive email notifications of requested documentation, and can view all requested documentation via the “Check Your Application Status" page on their MDCAPS account. ​

            Proof of Independent Status for Financial Aid Purposes

            ​Determined by type of independent status; examples: proof of legal guardianship, proof of foster care, proof of being ward of the court, marriage license, veteran status, etc.

            ​Proof of Selective Service Registration

            ​Submit copy of selective service registration card or registration confirmation letter.

            Copy must show proof of associate's degree being conferred from a Maryland community college

            Renewal Requirements

            2+2 Transfer Scholarship recipients may be eligible to renew the award for three years of study or six semesters of study, whichever is longer. For recipients to remain eligible for the Scholarship, they must:

             

            • Remain a resident of Maryland;
            • Submit the FAFSA yearly;
            • Continue to be enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student at a public or private nonprofit 4-year institution in Maryland;
            • Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at their enrolled 4-year higher education institution;
            • Maintain the standards of the institution attended by the recipient.
