Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies Program Description
The Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies (IHS) program allows for individually-designed courses of doctoral study and research. Courses offered at the Ph.D. level in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences may be selected for inclusion in the student’s self-designated program. The proposed program invites first-year doctoral students in Humanities or humanistic Social Science disciplines to propose an interdisciplinary degree of their own design that will provide a pathway and support structure to acquire a set of interdisciplinary research skills that will enable them to pursue innovative, potentially novel, research projects that advance our knowledge, and to develop innovative curricula. The Ph.D. program in Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies was established by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funding the student support that the program requires. An advisory board drawn from the Humanities and Social Sciences faculties at the University will provide oversight and guidance.
