All military academies require that applicants be American citizens, at least age 17, and of good moral character. Each academy has specific entry requirements regarding marital status, maximum age at time of appointment, good vision, minimum height, and high school academic background. Appointments to the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, and U.S. Military Academy are by Congressional nomination and are competitive. Coast Guard Academy appointments are strictly competitive.
Air Force Academy

Naval Academy
Tuition, room, board, medical and dental care provided. Midshipmen receive monthly compensation for uniforms, books, and personal needs. U.S. Military Academy
Tuition, room, board, medical and dental care provided, plus annual compensation from which cadets must pay for uniforms, books, and personal needs; a deposit of $2,400 is required to defray initial expenses. Coast Guard Academy

Merchant Marine Academy
