Military Academies

All military academies require that applicants be American citizens, at least age 17, and of good moral character.  Each academy has specific entry requirements regarding marital status, maximum age at time of appointment, good vision, minimum height, and high school academic background.  Details and application forms are available by writing the academy of your choice.

Appointments to the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, and U.S. Military Academy are by Congressional nomination and are competitive.  Coast Guard Academy appointments are strictly competitive.

Air Force Academy
All expenses paid by the government.  Cadets receive monthly compensation for uniforms, books, and personal needs. Five years active duty service obligation.  For information, write to the U.S. Air Force Academy, CO 80840.

Naval Academy
Tuition, room, board, medical and dental care provided.  Midshipmen receive monthly compensation for uniforms, books, and personal needs.  Five years active duty service obligation plus two years in the Reserves.  For information, write to Director of Candidate Guidance, Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD 21402.

U.S. Military Academy
Tuition, room, board, medical and dental care provided, plus annual compensation from which cadets must pay for uniforms, books, and personal needs; a deposit of $2,400 is required to defray initial expenses.  Five years active duty service obligation.  For information, write to Director of Admissions, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY 10996.

Coast Guard Academy

Merchant Marine Academy
