McDaniel College

One of the oldest private colleges in Maryland and the first coeducational college south of the Mason-Dixon Line, McDaniel College offers its 1,700 undergraduates from 35 states and 18 countries more than 60 programs of study. Situated on a hill overlooking Westminster, Md. – less than an hour's drive from Washington, D.C. – the College is a close-knit community of students, professors, and staff focused on learning for life. Here, students learn to think creatively and critically, challenged by McDaniel professors who are mentors dedicated to classroom, laboratory, and studio teaching – and who involve students in their research. The College's curriculum features courses that offer global, multicultural and interdisciplinary perspectives and classes that are specific to each year of study, including first-year seminar, sophomore interdisciplinary studies and a junior writing experience. January term provides opportunities to engage in concentrated coursework beyond conventional study, and students conclude the academic program with a capstone experience that synthesizes learning from earlier studies within a chosen major. A branch campus in Budapest, Hungary, gives the College a unique global perspective. McDaniel College is nationally recognized as one of the eight colleges in the Northeast that changes lives, according to former New York Times education editor Loren Pope in his book Colleges That Change Lives.
